Safety and Maintenance Must Do's and Dont's
The
hovercraft maintenance
procedures on our web page are an introductory guide and not a complete set
of maintenance instructions. It is
important to read the Maintenance section in the Operator's manual
which is more detailed and is specific to each hovercraft model.

Preventative Maintenance Schedule
Pre-flight Check:
- Remove any loose objects from floor of
craft;
- Check skirts and drag flap for damage;
- Check choke for free operation;

Ensure fanguard is properly secured;
- Ensure hull drain plugs are in place;

In cold weather remove ice from fanguard, air filter, floor of
craft, underneath engine and rudders;
- Make sure the engine cooling fan is
not blocked with leaves or grass;
- Check the navigation and instrument
lights;
- Check the scupper valves (on older
models only).
Post-flight Check:
- In salt water conditions hose down all
metal parts with fresh water;
- Re-fuel and grease fan bearings more
often in salt water areas.
After First Ten Hours of Operation:
- Grease fan bearings;
- Check belt tension;
- Check top pulley and fan mounting
bolts for tightness;
- Check engine mounting bolts for
tightness;
- Inspect air filter and wash/oil it as
necessary
Every Ten Hours:
- Grease fan bearings;
- Check bottom hull for damage;
- Check choke and throttle cables for
free operation; in salt water conditions lubricate with silicone
lubricant
- Check skirts and drag flap for damage
and repair
- Check fan blades for damage; replace
if necessary
Every 25 Hours:
- Check thrust frame bolts for
tightness;
- Check belt for tension, fraying or bad
tracking;

Check windshield, heatshield and fanguard for security or
damage;
- Check drag flap rope for tightness;

Inspect engine spark plugs.
